N. 'Hickory Bend Polar Ice'.
Descriptions by Charles Leach.
Hickory Bend Polar Ice plants turned up in what were supposed to be Foxfire pots a few years ago. Don't know how they got there; only that we had nothing to do with it. Best theory so far is that they are Foxfire sports. That was from someone who claims that the variety is known for producing them but I can't imagine five identical sports appearing at once. Whatever they are they seem stable and their tubers grow true Polar Ice plants so I am happy. Hickory Bend Polar ice is a non viviparous, day blooming, tropical waterlily. It has bicolor blue and white flowers, 8"(20 cm) or more across. Flowers open early and stay open until nearly dusk. Leaf spread of about 8' (240cm) or more and brownish green leaves with maroon blotches, up to about 16"(40 cm) across.
