Nymphaea 'Leopardess'

Nymphaea ‘Leopardess’

Nymphaea ‘Leopardess’ is a tropical lily created in 1931 by Randig. It has cobalt blue cupped petals and mottled pads. It’s date of publication is 1958.

There are numerous lilies sold in the market as Nymphaea ‘Leopardess’ that are not the corect plant. The true form has a rich deep cobalt blue. The incorrect ones on the market are an admirable plant but are a much paler blue closer in color to the flower on the Nymphaea ‘Star of Siam’.

This is a picture that I took of the plant that is sold in much of the trade. I have grown some of these out and as you can see it is a beautiful lily but obviously not the correct plant.
