IWC Update
Wednesday April 6, 2011
The International Waterlily Collection is proud to announce the following breaking news. We have been granted permission to show some really rare material that is only in select venues around the world. We will also have access to new species material that no one else will be able to show.
Award winning hybridist, Pairat Songpanich
is allowing us to showcase some of his fantastic hybrids in the collection this year. There are several great hybrid hardy waterlilies and his 2010 award-winning intersugeneric waterlily Nymphaea 'Siam Pink' will also be on display later this season.
Update...We have many of his fantastic plants on display in the collection now that are only in one or two other collections in the world. We have the following on display right now...
photo and hybrid Nymphaea 'Siam Pink' by Mr. Pairat Songpanich.
Dr. C. Barre Hellquist, Ph.D. Biology Professor, Emeritus is on a trip to Australia as we print this. As a memorium to the his great friend and fellow researcher the late Dr. Surrey W. L. Jacobs, we will be showing the largest collection of Australian species material anywhere in the United States.
Dr. Surrey W. L. Jacobs
We hope to receive the following plants in seed or tuber form... Nymphaea alexii, Nymphaea carpentariae, Nymphaea georginae, Nymphaea hastifolia, Nymphaea immutabilis, Nymphaea jacobsii, Nymphaea macrosperma, Nymphaea vaporalis and Nymphaea violacea.

Update... we did get some seed from Barre and are starting to grow it. We will be showing much of this material in the 2012 season as a tribute to Dr. Surrey W.L. Jacobs

The IWC in it's Glory
It is with pleasure and great thanks that we post these incredible shots by our esteemed friend, Noriyuki Kato. He was present for the IWGS Symposium and captured these shots during the fireworks show that Ken presented the night before Lily Fest 2010. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity at the IWC and Noriyuki captured it in it's glory.
These firework photos are copyrighted by the IWC and Noriyuki Kato.
They are not to be taken or used without his permission.
Thanks to a collaberation with Zac DeGarmeaux of Pond Megastore we are presenting high definition videos here on the site. After a certain time period, we will move the videos of individual plants to their own page and make more room here on the front page for other content.
At this time there are the videos below and on their own pages of many waterlilies. As we move them to their individual pages from here on the front page you will be able to see what plants have a posted video by looking at the plant index page and looking for this animated image...
Pond Megastore is a trusted source for water garden items and plants. We are also working towards a deal that would allow them to sell Ken Landon's 7803 fertilizer sometime in the near future. At this time there are very few outlets to get the "best" waterlily fertilizer on the market and we hope to help rectify that by spring of 2011.
16 New Videos Below
Here is a video showing Nymphaea 'Yellow Dazzler' by Randig. This footage was shot at Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania. The waterlily pools there are run by our good friend Tim Jennings. It is also the home of the creation of the victoria 'Longwood Hybrid' created by long-time curator, Mr. Patrick Nutt. He is a great friend and mentor and a legend in the world of aquatic floraculture.
Here is a video showing Nymphaea 'Mrs. Edwards Whitaker' by the legendary George H. Pring. This footage was shot at Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania.
Here is a video showing Nymphaea 'Panama Pacific' by the legendary William Tricker in 1914. This footage was shot at Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania.

Thanks also go to Tamara Kilbane of Duke University who allowed us to get close enough to get this footage last summer.

Here is a short video showing Tim, Zac and Ken talking about aussies. Turn up the volume to hear the conversation. Remember we are supposed to be crazy, it's okay. We still have to work on Ken's on camera persona.
Have you ever wondered how Ken came to be known as the "Indiana Jones" of the aquatic world? Did you know he was personally responsible for researching and re-discovering a species declared extinct by all of the other experts? Perhaps this article should be renamed "Rediscovery of an extict species". This is a reprint from a 1985 article that Ken wrote for the IWGS at that time the IWLS. Go read it for an in depth view of a passionate explorer doing a job that no one else could.
