N. 'Hickory Bend Blue Star'.
Descriptions by Charles Leach.
Hickory Bend Blue Star is a seedling of one of two lilies that came from seeds of what were supposed to be N caerulea from Thailand years ago. While visiting Walter Pagles told us that they were not N caerulea but did not try to guess what they might be. Both are long gone but this and a couple more of their seedlings are still with us. Pollen parent is unknown.
Hickory Bend Blue Star is a non viviparous, day blooming tropical lily with medium blue, star shaped, 6-7"(15-18 cm) flower. Spread of dramatically mottled 10-14" (26-35 cm) leaves is up to about 7' (213 cm). What sets it apart is that mottling of early leaves is a combination of nearly black and apple green.
